Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Azerbaijan requires all Bahrain passport holders to obtain an eVisa before arrival. Apply at evisa.gov.az — the process takes about 3 working days and costs $25 USD. Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least $200 USD or equivalent in cash, or a credit card showing available balance. Border officers rarely check, but they can ask if you look underfunded.Recommended
Visa on arrival only at Baku airport
If you're flying into Baku, you're fine. But if you plan to enter Azerbaijan by land (from Georgia, Iran, or Russia), you must get an e-visa or regular visa beforehand. The visa on arrival is not available at land borders.
Cash only for visa fee
The visa on arrival counter at Baku airport typically accepts only cash — USD or AZN. Credit cards are not accepted. Bring about 30 USD in cash to avoid any issues.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Passport Control'. The visa counter is before immigration. Join the queue, fill out a short application form (usually provided at the counter), and pay the visa fee (approx. 30 USD, paid in USD or AZN). The officer will process your visa and stamp your passport. Then proceed to immigration.
2
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport (with the visa stamp), return ticket (printed or on phone), and accommodation confirmation if asked. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay. Answer clearly. You'll receive an entry stamp.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall.
