Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and other designated entry points. Have $50 USD in cash for a single-entry visa (up to 90 days) — the immigration officer will process it at the counter. No advance application needed, but carry a printed copy of your flight itinerary and hotel booking just in case.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the visa sticker. Tanzania does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay. Airlines at Bahrain International Airport may still ask for 6 months validity, so check with Gulf Air or your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready. If you plan to overland to Kenya or Uganda, a bus ticket or ferry reservation works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Tanzania. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked tour. A simple booking.com or Airbnb confirmation is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration rarely checks this for Bahraini passport holders, but it helps if you are asked. ATMs are available at the airport but carry some USD for the visa fee.Recommended
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa fee must be paid in cash — no cards, no mobile payments. Bring $50 USD in crisp, undamaged notes. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash to get through.
Yellow fever certificate if transiting through risk countries
If your flight to Tanzania has a layover in Kenya, Uganda, or another country with yellow fever, you'll need a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Direct flights from Bahrain are fine.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) or Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. Join the queue — there's usually a separate window for visa applications.
2
Submit documents and pay fee
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (given on the plane), and $50 USD. The officer will process your visa and affix the sticker. Keep the receipt if given.
3
Pass through immigration
After receiving your visa sticker, proceed to the immigration officer who will stamp you in. You'll be asked your purpose of visit and length of stay. Answer clearly.
4
Collect luggage and exit
Once stamped, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. Green channel if nothing to declare, red if you have goods over the duty-free limit.
