What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Manas International Airport (Bishkek)
You'll land at the main international airport. Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — it's a straightforward walk from the gate.
2
Queue at the foreign passport line
There are separate lines for Kyrgyz citizens and foreigners. Join the foreign passport queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your photo, validity, and may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer briefly and clearly.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period (60 days). Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the dates are correct.
5
Collect luggage and exit customs
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. You're in.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Kyrgyzstan before the 60 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a visa in advance at a Kyrgyz embassy.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll likely face a fine (around 1,000–5,000 KGS, roughly $12–$60) and possible deportation. In some cases, you could be banned from re-entering for a period. Don't risk it — leave on time.
If you're staying more than 5 business days, you (or your hotel) must register your stay with the State Registration Service. Hotels usually do this automatically. If you're in private accommodation, you need to register in person at a local office. Fines for not registering can be around 1,000 KGS.
Yes, the same visa-free policy applies at all land border crossings. Just make sure your passport is valid for 6+ months and you have proof of onward travel. Border crossings can be slower than airports, so expect longer queues.
No, it's not required for entry. But it's strongly recommended. Medical care in Kyrgyzstan can be expensive for foreigners, and evacuation to a nearby country like Turkey or Germany can cost thousands. Get a policy that covers medical evacuation.
The local currency is the Kyrgyzstani som (KGS). US dollars are widely accepted for exchange at banks and exchange offices in Bishkek. ATMs are common in cities. Avoid exchanging money on the street — use official exchange points.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry. But the CDC and WHO recommend routine vaccines plus hepatitis A and typhoid. Check with your doctor 4–6 weeks before travel.
