What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
Most visitors fly into Kigali International Airport (KGL). After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. The queue moves quickly — typically 15–30 minutes.
2
Present your documents at immigration
Hand over your passport (with at least 6 months validity and 1 blank page) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee is charged. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any items if required. Exit into the arrivals hall where taxis and ride-hailing services are available.
