Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the 90-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Ukraine does not enforce a fixed minimum amount, but carrying at least $50–$100 per day in cash or a credit card statement helps if questioned. ATMs are widely available in cities.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Ukraine. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied travel — no exceptions.
Keep a digital copy of your passport
Take a photo of your passport's main page and any entry stamps. If you lose your passport, this will speed up getting an emergency travel document from your embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Ukrainian border control
At any airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They rarely ask for supporting documents, but have your return ticket and accommodation handy.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the booth. If it's wrong, ask for a correction immediately.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim (if flying), then customs. Green channel if nothing to declare. You're in.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Ukraine before the 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban from re-entering. If you need to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a temporary residence permit before your 90 days expire — but that's a separate, more involved process.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry by Ukrainian border control. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
No. Brazilian passport holders can transit through Ukraine without a visa for up to 90 days, as long as you stay within the airport's transit zone and don't enter the country. If you plan to leave the airport, you'll need to follow the same visa-free rules (passport validity, etc.).
Yes. The same visa-free rules apply at all land border crossings. You'll go through Ukrainian passport control on the border. Have your passport and any supporting documents ready. Land crossings can have longer queues, especially during peak travel times.
Always carry your original passport. Police can ask for ID at any time. A photocopy or digital scan is not accepted. Keep a separate copy (physical or digital) in your hotel safe in case of loss.
No, it's not mandatory for entry. However, it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Ukraine can be high, and insurance covers hospital stays, evacuation, or trip cancellations. Some airlines may ask for proof of insurance at check-in, but it's rare.
Overstaying is a violation of Ukrainian immigration law. You may face a fine (typically around 1,700 UAH for the first offense), deportation, and a ban from re-entering Ukraine for up to 3 years. Always track your stay carefully.
