Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Swiss passport needs to be valid only for the length of your stay in Belize. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belize
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready showing access to at least $100 USD per day. Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds on arrival.Recommended
30-day limit is strict — no extensions
Belize does not allow extensions for tourist stays. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you must leave the country and re-enter. Overstaying even a day can result in fines and future entry problems.
Keep your immigration card stub
When you enter Belize, you'll receive a small paper card. Keep it with your passport — you must return it to immigration when you depart. Losing it can cause delays at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Belize airport or land border
At Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City, or at any land border crossing from Mexico or Guatemala, join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport and return ticket. The officer will ask your purpose of visit (tourism is fine) and how long you're staying. Answer clearly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with a 30-day tourist permit. Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the date is correct. You're now free to enter Belize.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 30-day tourist permit is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Belize (e.g., cross into Mexico or Guatemala) and re-enter to get a fresh 30-day stamp. Overstaying can result in fines or being barred from re-entry.
You will likely be denied entry at the border. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
If you're transiting through Belize (e.g., flying into BZE and out the same day), you generally don't need a visa as long as you stay airside. But if you need to clear immigration to switch terminals or stay overnight, the 30-day visa-free rule applies.
Yes. Swiss passport holders can enter Belize at any official land border crossing (e.g., Chetumal/Corozal from Mexico, or Benque Viejo from Guatemala). The same 30-day visa-free rule applies. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
No. There is no online arrival declaration or eTA for Swiss citizens. You simply fill out a paper immigration card on the plane or at the border. Keep the stub — you'll need to hand it back when you leave.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined (around $50–100 BZD per day overstayed) and could be banned from re-entering Belize for a period. Always leave before your stamp expires.
No, there is no formal proof of funds requirement for Swiss citizens entering Belize. But if you look like you might work illegally or have no means of support, an officer could ask. Having a credit card or some cash (USD or BZD) is sensible.
