Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your stay in Cyprus
Your Swiss passport needs to be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Cyprus. Cyprus does not enforce the 6-month validity rule for Swiss nationals — as long as your passport covers your travel dates, you are fine. Airlines may still check for at least 3 months validity beyond your departure date.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of departure
Carry a printed or digital copy of your onward or return ticket. Cyprus immigration officers occasionally ask for proof that you will leave within the visa-free period. A flight booking confirmation or boarding pass works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation, rental agreement, or a letter from your host ready. Immigration rarely asks for it for Swiss passport holders, but having a booking confirmation on your phone avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to funds. Cyprus does not publish a fixed minimum amount for Swiss visitors, but having around €50–€100 per day of stay is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely checks this for Swiss nationals.Recommended
Cyprus is not in Schengen, but uses Schengen rules
Even though Cyprus is not part of the Schengen Area, it applies the same 90/180-day rule for Swiss passport holders. Your days in Cyprus count toward your Schengen 90-day limit if you've also visited Schengen countries recently.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Cyprus. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at passport control
At Larnaca or Paphos airport, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will scan it and may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying, when you leave). Answer clearly and briefly.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket (screenshot is fine) and accommodation booking. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed (usually 90).
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're free to go.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This is the standard Schengen-area rule, even though Cyprus is not in Schengen. The clock resets after 90 days outside Cyprus.
Tourist entry does not allow you to work for a Cypriot employer. Remote work for a Swiss company is generally tolerated, but officially you're not supposed to 'work' at all. If you plan to work remotely long-term, consider the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa (requires application).
No. If you're just changing planes and staying airside, you don't need a visa. But if you need to clear immigration (e.g., to switch terminals or stay overnight), you'll need to meet the same entry requirements as any other visitor.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before travelling. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced.
Extensions are not available for tourist stays. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a residence permit or a long-stay visa before your 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
No. Swiss citizens do not need to register with local authorities for stays under 90 days. Just keep your passport with the entry stamp.
Overstaying is a violation. You may be fined, deported, and banned from re-entering Cyprus or the Schengen area for a period. The fine is typically around €50–100 per day overstayed, but can be higher.
