Visa on arrival
Swiss passport holders get a free 30-day visa on arrival at Hamad International Airport. Head to the visa counter after baggage claim — no pre-application needed. You can extend once for another 30 days at the Ministry of Interior office.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Valid passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in Qatar. Airlines check this at check-in — I've seen people turned away at Zurich for having 5 months left.Required
Return or onward ticket
Return or onward ticket
Immigration at Doha asks for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready — they checked mine even on a short layover.Required
Proof of accommodation
Proof of accommodation
Have your hotel booking or host's address handy. Immigration officers sometimes ask where you're staying — a printed confirmation or a phone screenshot works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Proof of funds
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. I've never been asked, but the rule says you need enough for accommodation and expenses.Recommended
Visa on arrival is free and quick
Swiss passport holders do not need to apply in advance. Just show up at immigration with a valid passport and a return ticket. The process takes about 5 minutes.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will not be allowed to fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hamad International Airport (DOH)
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then to 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for GCC residents and all other passports. Swiss passport holders use the 'All Passports' queue.
2
Present your passport at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Have them ready.
3
Receive your visa on arrival
The officer will issue a visa sticker or stamp in your passport. It's valid for 30 days. No fee is charged for Swiss passport holders.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed through customs
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Customs is usually quick.
