Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in the Dominican Republic. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and other airports always ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. Without one, you risk being denied entry and sent back on the next flight.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter from your host ready. Immigration may ask where you are staying — show a booking confirmation with your name and dates.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask for proof you have enough money for your stay. Carry bank statements or a credit card — $100–$200 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Ivory Coast passport holders cannot enter the Dominican Republic without a pre-approved visa. There is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option. Apply at the embassy well in advance.
Yellow fever certificate may be required
If you're flying from Ivory Coast or another country with yellow fever, Dominican immigration may ask for your yellow fever vaccination card. Get the vaccine and carry the yellow card with your passport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa at the embassy
Contact the Dominican embassy or consulate in your country (or nearest region) to submit your visa application. Provide your passport, photos, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and any other documents they request. Processing takes 5–15 business days, so apply at least 3 weeks before your trip.
2
Pack your documents
Before you fly, print or save digital copies of your visa approval, passport, return ticket, and hotel confirmation. Keep them in your carry-on — you'll need them at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at the airport in Dominican Republic
At Punta Cana (PUJ), Santo Domingo (SDQ), or Puerto Plata (POP), go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 30 days (or as per your visa).
4
Collect your bags and exit
After immigration, grab your luggage from the carousel, then pass through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're in.
