Ivorian passport holders need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You must apply for a Standard Visitor visa before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or eVisa option for your nationality. Plan ahead, as the application process involves an online form, an appointment at a visa application centre, and a decision that can take several weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
UK VisaYou cannot enter the UK without a valid visa obtained before travel.
Apply at a British embassy or consulate
A visa is required for all travel to the United Kingdom. You must apply for a UK visa in advance at a British embassy or consulate (e.g., in Abidjan) — an eVisa is not available for Ivorian citizens. Allow several weeks for processing.Required
Passport validityCheck your passport expiry date — it must not expire within 6 months of your arrival.
At least 6 months from arrival
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of arrival in the UK (i.e., valid until at least February 2027 if arriving in August 2026).Required
Blank passport pagesThe page is needed for the entry stamp.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least 1 blank page for the UK Border Force to stamp your entry. Ensure no pages are torn or damaged.Required
Return or onward ticketHave your flight booking ready to show at check-in and at the border.
Proof of departure from the UK
You must be able to show a confirmed return or onward ticket proving you will leave the UK before your visa expires. This is checked by airline staff and border officers.Required
Proof of fundsCarry recent bank statements or proof of income to show you can support yourself.
Sufficient money for your stay
You may be asked to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover your accommodation, living costs, and return travel. Bank statements or cash are acceptable.Required
Accommodation detailsBorder officers may ask where you are staying — have the details handy.
Where you will stay
Have the address and booking confirmation of your hotel, or a letter of invitation from your host in the UK, ready to present at the border.Required
Travel insuranceProtects you against unexpected costs during your trip.
Recommended for medical and trip coverage
While not mandatory for entry, comprehensive travel insurance covering medical expenses and trip cancellation is strongly recommended for all visitors.Recommended
UK Arrival DeclarationYou do not need to fill out any online arrival form before landing.
Not required
No arrival declaration is required for the United Kingdom for Ivorian citizens. Not required
No eVisa for Ivorian citizens
Despite the UK's general eVisa system, Ivorian passport holders are not eligible to apply online. You must go through the full visa application process at the embassy/consulate or TLScontact centre in Abidjan. Don't fall for third-party websites offering 'fast-track' eVisa services — they are scams.
Apply well in advance
Visa processing can take up to 3 weeks, and appointments at the Abidjan centre may be booked out. Apply at least 6-8 weeks before your planned travel date to avoid last-minute stress.
Refusal risk
UK visa refusals for Ivorian applicants are not uncommon due to insufficient documentation or weak ties to home. Ensure your bank statements show consistent income, and provide a letter from your employer stating your leave dates. A refusal can affect future applications — get it right the first time.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online application
Go to GOV.UK and fill out the Standard Visitor visa form. Have your passport, travel dates, and address in the UK ready. You'll get a GWF reference number — save it.
2
Pay the fee and book your appointment
Pay the £115 fee online. Then book a biometric appointment at the TLScontact centre in Abidjan (located in the Plateau district). Appointments are usually available within a few days to a couple of weeks.
3
Attend the biometric appointment
Bring your printed application form, passport, and supporting documents. You'll give fingerprints and a photo. The staff will scan your documents and return your passport to you (unless you opt for the 'keep my passport' service).
4
Wait for the decision
Processing typically takes 3 weeks (15 working days) from the date of your appointment. You can track your application online. If approved, you'll receive a vignette (sticker) in your passport — check the dates carefully.
5
Travel to the UK
On arrival at a UK airport, go to the 'Non-EU' or 'All other passports' queue. The Border Force officer will check your passport and may ask questions about your trip. Have your return ticket and accommodation details handy.
