Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay. Papua New Guinea does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but airlines may check for at least 6 months — confirm with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers in Port Moresby will ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from a host can speed up immigration. Officers occasionally ask where you are staying, so have a booking confirmation handy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing you can cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum amount, but having around 500 PGK per day in accessible funds avoids delays.Recommended
Apply early — no rush service
The eVisa takes 3–5 business days to process, and there's no expedited option. Don't wait until the last minute. Apply at least a week before your flight.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa, passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation as PDFs on your phone. Also print paper copies — phone batteries die, and some officials prefer paper.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Papua New Guinea eVisa website. Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo. Pay the fee (around $50 USD) by credit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with the eVisa document. Print a paper copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Port Moresby International Airport
Most international flights land at Jacksons International Airport (POM). Go to the immigration counter, present your passport, eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process takes 10–20 minutes if you have everything ready.
