Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Zambia eVisa at the official eVisa portal at least 3 business days before departure. The eVisa is single-entry and costs around $50 USD. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport will stamp you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Zambia. Airlines at Abidjan check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers in Lusaka and Livingstone routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/train ticket to a neighboring country. Without it, you risk being refused entry and put on the next flight back.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Zambia. Immigration may ask for the address and phone number of where you are staying. A simple Booking.com confirmation on your phone works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to prove you can cover your stay. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels but cash is king in rural areas.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
If you're coming from Ivory Coast (or have transited through a country with yellow fever risk), you must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at Zambian immigration. No certificate = possible denial of entry or quarantine.
eVisa is digital — but print it
While the eVisa is electronic, having a printed copy speeds things up at immigration. Phone screens can die or lose signal. Print two copies: one for your bag, one for your wallet.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Zambia eVisa website (evisa.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days.
2
Wait for approval
Check your email (including spam folder) for the eVisa approval. It comes as a PDF. Print a copy and save it on your phone. The visa is usually valid for 90 days from issue, and you can stay up to 30 days.
3
Arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka) or other entry points
At immigration, present your passport, the printed eVisa, and your return ticket. They may ask for proof of accommodation. The officer stamps your passport — that's it. The whole process takes about 10–15 minutes if you have everything ready.
