Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Dakar Blaise Diagne International Airport or any other entry point. Have 50,000 XOF (about $80 USD) in cash for the single-entry tourist visa — they do not accept cards. The visa is valid for up to 90 days and is not extendable.Check visa portalRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Senegal. Airlines at Yaoundé and Douala check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, they may deny boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Dakar airport ask for a return or onward ticket before stamping you in. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking — they rarely accept verbal promises.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. Have a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from a host ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Carry at least 100,000 XOF (about $160 USD) in cash or a credit card with a visible balance — ATMs at the airport work but can run out of cash.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash. Cards are not accepted. Bring enough West African CFA francs (XOF) or have Euros/USD to exchange. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash before that point.
Yellow fever vaccine required
Senegal requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for travelers from Cameroon. Carry your yellow card (International Certificate of Vaccination) with your passport. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport or border
At Dakar Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. At land borders, go to the immigration counter. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
2
Fill out the visa application form
You'll be given a short form to complete. It asks for basic info: name, passport number, flight details, and address in Senegal. Fill it out in capital letters.
3
Pay the visa fee
The visa-on-arrival costs around 50,000 XOF (about $80 USD) for a single entry. Pay in cash (Euros or USD accepted at some counters, but XOF is safest). Keep the receipt.
4
Receive your visa sticker
The officer will place a visa sticker in your passport and stamp it. Check that the dates are correct before leaving the counter. The standard stay is 30 days.
5
Proceed to passport control
After getting your visa, go to the passport control queue. Present your passport with the new visa. The officer will stamp you in. You're now legally in Senegal.
