What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa at the embassy
Contact the Trinidad and Tobago embassy or consulate in your region (e.g., in Abuja, Nigeria, or via a designated visa processing center). Submit your application, passport, photos, and supporting documents. Pay the visa fee and wait for processing — this can take 2–4 weeks.
2
Prepare your travel documents
Once your visa is approved, print a copy of the visa approval letter. Also print or save digital copies of your passport, return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance. Keep them in a separate folder from your passport.
3
Arrive at Piarco International Airport (POS)
Most international flights land at Piarco Airport in Port of Spain. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control.' Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports.' Have your passport, visa approval, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready.
4
Go through immigration
Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly. They may also ask to see your return ticket. Once approved, they'll stamp your passport — check the stamp for the allowed stay duration.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim. Then go through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). Exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

If you are connecting to another international flight and do not leave the airport transit area, you generally do not need a visa. However, check with your airline as some may require a transit visa. If you need to clear immigration (e.g., to switch terminals or stay overnight), you will need a visa.
Processing typically takes 2–4 weeks. Apply at least 6 weeks before your travel date to be safe. Some applications may take longer if additional documents are requested.
Visa fees vary by nationality and embassy. Expect to pay around $50–100 USD equivalent. Check the embassy's website for the exact fee and accepted payment methods.
Extensions are not available for visa holders. You must leave before your visa expires. If you need to stay longer, you would need to apply for a new visa from outside the country.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it expires sooner, renew your passport before applying for the visa. Immigration will deny entry otherwise.
Trinidad and Tobago requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Cameroon is on that list, so you will need to show proof of vaccination. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
The local currency is the Trinidad and Tobago dollar (TTD). US dollars are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and shops, but you'll get change in TTD. ATMs dispense TTD. It's a good idea to carry some local cash for taxis and small purchases.
