Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visa required
Apply for a visa at the Ukrainian embassy or consulate in your country of residence. The eVisa portal at evisa.gov.ua is available for certain nationalities — check if yours qualifies. Processing takes up to 10 working days for a standard visa.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa application
You need a confirmed return or onward ticket to show at the visa application and at border control. Immigration officers at Boryspil Airport check this for all visa holders.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Have a hotel booking or an invitation letter from a host ready. Border officers may ask for it, especially if you're staying more than a few days.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — around $50 USD per day of stay is a safe benchmark. Bank statements or credit cards work. Immigration rarely asks, but it's better to have it.Recommended
Visa required — apply early
Chinese passport holders cannot enter Ukraine without a visa. The e-visa takes up to 10 business days, so apply at least 2 weeks before your trip. Last-minute applications may not be processed in time.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the day you land in Ukraine, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your e-visa
Go to evisa.gov.ua and fill out the online application. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $20-30 USD) and submit. Processing takes 5-10 business days. You'll receive the visa by email.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save to your phone: the visa approval email, passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them together in a folder or a clear plastic sleeve.
3
Arrive at the airport in Ukraine
At Boryspil (Kyiv) or Lviv airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp — that's your entry permission.
4
Show documents if asked
Immigration officers rarely ask for proof of funds or insurance, but have them ready. If they ask 'How long are you staying?' say the exact number of days matching your visa.
