Chinese passport holders must get an eVisa before traveling to Uganda. The entire process is online, and you need to have your approval letter printed or saved on your phone before you depart. As of 2026, this is the only way to obtain a visa for tourism or business.

Entry requirements

Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda. Airlines at Chinese airports check this before boarding.Required

Required for entry
Immigration officers at Entebbe routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Uganda. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card with available balance. Immigration may ask to see it, especially if you lack a return ticket.Recommended
Apply early — processing can be slow
The Uganda eVisa system sometimes takes longer than advertised. Don't wait until the last minute. Apply at least 7–10 days before your flight to avoid stress.
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your yellow fever vaccination card at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (which costs money and time). Get the shot at least 10 days before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, create an account, fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing takes 2–5 business days, sometimes longer.
2
Receive and print your approval
You'll get an email with a PDF approval letter. Print it out and also save a copy on your phone. Without this, you won't be allowed to board your flight.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
At immigration, present your passport, printed eVisa approval, and return ticket. They'll stamp you in. The queue can be slow — expect 30–60 minutes. Have your phone screenshot of the eVisa ready in case the officer asks.
4
Show your onward ticket and accommodation
Immigration officers may ask for proof of your return flight and where you're staying. Have both ready on your phone or printed.

Frequently asked questions

No. Uganda requires all Chinese passport holders to have an eVisa approved before travel. There is no visa-on-arrival option. You must apply online at visas.immigration.go.ug at least a few days before your flight.
A single-entry tourist eVisa costs about $50 USD. The exact amount depends on the current exchange rate and any processing fees. You pay online with a credit card during the application.
Processing usually takes 2–5 business days, but it can be longer during peak travel times or if there are issues with your application. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe.
Denials are rare but can happen if your passport is damaged, your photo doesn't meet requirements, or you have a criminal record. You'll get a reason in the email. You can reapply with corrected information, but you'll pay the fee again.
Yes, Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 1 year old. You'll need to show the yellow card (International Certificate of Vaccination) at immigration. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave the country and apply for a new visa, or apply for a different visa type before your current one expires. Overstaying can result in fines.
If you're staying in the airport and not passing through immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you need to leave the transit area, you'll need an eVisa. Check with your airline for specific transit rules.
