Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
Your passport needs at least 3 months of validity after the date you leave Belgium (and the entire Schengen zone). Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Brussels Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Have a hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host ready. Officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement, cash, or credit card
Carry a bank statement or enough cash/cards to cover your stay — roughly €45–€55 per day. Officers rarely check this for Colombian passport holders, but they can ask.Recommended
Overstay penalties are strict
Overstaying even one day can result in a fine of up to €3,000 and a re-entry ban of up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.
Schengen area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to the entire Schengen area (29 European countries). Days spent in any Schengen country count toward your 90-day limit. Keep track of your total days across all Schengen states.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Print or save digital copies of your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. Keep them in a separate folder from your passport.
2
Arrive at Brussels Airport or other Schengen entry point
At passport control, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer may ask about your trip purpose, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
Once approved, the officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp is your proof of legal entry. Check that the stamp is legible before leaving the counter.
4
Keep documents during your stay
Carry your passport and a copy of your return ticket with you at all times. Police or immigration officers may conduct random checks, especially near borders or at train stations.
