Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visa sticker
Colombian passport holders need a visa sticker before traveling to Suriname. Apply through the Suriname Visa Information portal at gov.sr/visumsticker — processing takes 5–10 business days. You must submit your passport physically to the embassy or consulate for the sticker to be affixed.Apply for visa stickerRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Suriname. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — they will deny entry if you cannot show one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you are staying — have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. A simple booking printout or email works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Immigration may ask for evidence of sufficient funds — around $100 USD per day is a safe benchmark. A recent bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them.Recommended
Visa required — apply early
Colombian passport holders must get a visa before traveling to Suriname. There is no visa-on-arrival. Start the process at least 4 weeks ahead.
Yellow fever vaccine required
If you are arriving from Colombia (a yellow fever endemic country), you must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Get the shot at least 10 days before departure.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa
Contact the Suriname embassy in Bogotá (Calle 100 # 8A-55, Oficina 701). Submit the application form, passport photos, passport copy, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and proof of funds. Pay the visa fee (around $40–$60 USD, depending on type). Processing takes 2–4 weeks.
2
Wait for approval
Once submitted, the embassy reviews your application. You may be called for an interview. Do not book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.
3
Arrive at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM)
After landing, proceed to immigration. Present your passport with the visa sticker, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes if your documents are ready.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and pass through customs. There are no additional health checks unless you arrive from a yellow fever endemic area.
