What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visitor visa online
Go to the IRCC website (Canada.ca/immigration). Create an account, fill out the application form, upload your documents (passport scan, photo, travel history, proof of funds, itinerary), and pay the CAD 100 fee. After submission, you'll get a Biometric Instruction Letter.
2
Give biometrics at a VAC
Book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) — there's one in Nicosia. Bring your passport and the instruction letter. They'll take your fingerprints and photo. Cost is CAD 85. Processing usually takes 2–4 weeks after biometrics.
3
Wait for decision and receive visa
Once approved, you'll get a visa counterfoil in your passport (either mailed or you pick it up). Check the validity dates — you can only enter Canada within that window.
4
Arrive at a Canadian port of entry
At the airport, go to the 'Visitors' line. Hand over your passport with the visa. The border officer may ask: purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long, and proof of funds. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with an authorized stay (usually 6 months).

No. There is no visa-on-arrival for Cyprus passport holders. You must get a visa before you travel.

Yes, it's part of the application. You need to show you can support yourself during your stay — typically bank statements from the last 3–4 months showing at least CAD 2,000–3,000 (€1,400–2,100) for a short trip. No fixed minimum, but enough to cover accommodation, food, and transport.
Yes, you can apply for a visitor record extension before your current authorized stay expires. You must apply online and pay a fee (CAD 100). Extensions are not guaranteed — you need a good reason (e.g., family visit, medical treatment). Overstaying can affect future visa applications.
You'll receive a letter explaining the reason (e.g., insufficient funds, weak ties to Cyprus). You can reapply with stronger documents — there's no waiting period. Common fixes: show more savings, a job letter, or property ownership in Cyprus.
