Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Moldova. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Moldovan law, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months validity. Carry a copy of your passport data page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Moldova
Immigration officers at Chișinău International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking or bus/train ticket showing you leave Moldova within the 90-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a notarized invitation letter from a Moldovan host. If staying with friends, ask them to provide a letter of invitation registered at the local police station.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Moldovan law requires visitors to have at least 50 EUR per day of stay. Carry cash in EUR or USD, or have a bank statement showing sufficient balance. ATMs are widely available in Chișinău but less so in rural areas.Recommended
Overstaying is costly
If you stay beyond 90 days, you'll face a fine of 400–600 MDL (about €20–30) per day of overstay, and you may be banned from re-entering Moldova for up to 5 years. Set a calendar reminder to leave on time.
Transnistria is a separate territory
If you plan to visit the breakaway region of Transnistria, you'll pass through a de facto border checkpoint. Your Moldovan entry stamp is usually enough, but register with the Transnistrian migration office if staying overnight. Leaving Transnistria into Ukraine is possible but requires a separate visa for Ukraine.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Chișinău International Airport or land border
Most Czech travellers fly into Chișinău International Airport (KIV). If coming by land from Romania or Ukraine, you'll pass through a border checkpoint like Leușeni or Sculeni. At the airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for EU/EEA and other nationals. EU queue is usually faster.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and when you're leaving. Answer briefly and honestly. They rarely ask for supporting documents, but have your return ticket and accommodation details ready just in case.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — if the date is wrong, ask for a correction immediately. The whole process takes 2–5 minutes.
