Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Panama. Airlines at Prague and other EU hubs may ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Panama
Immigration at Tocumen International Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines also check this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your first night's hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry at least $500 USD or equivalent in cash, credit cards, or bank statements. Panama does not publish a fixed minimum, but showing $50–$100 per day of stay covers the informal check.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months remaining, they will not let you board. Double-check your passport's expiry date before booking flights.
No visa, but don't skip the return ticket
Immigration officers at Tocumen routinely ask for proof of onward travel. A screenshot of your return flight or a bus ticket out of Panama is enough. Without it, you may be questioned and potentially denied entry.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). The queue can be 20–60 minutes depending on how many flights land at once. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer will ask your purpose of visit (say 'tourism' or 'vacation') and how long you're staying. They may ask for your return ticket — show the screenshot on your phone. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Customs is usually a green/red channel system — if you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. Random checks happen occasionally.
4
Exit the arrivals hall
Once through customs, you're free to leave. Taxis and ride-shares (Uber works in Panama City) are available outside. Have your accommodation address ready for the driver.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Panama before day 90 and re-enter. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
If you're connecting to another international flight and don't leave the transit area, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport (even for a few hours), you need to go through immigration and the 90-day visa-free rule applies.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at Tocumen. Renew your passport before traveling. No exceptions are made for short trips.
Yes. The same visa-free rules apply at land borders (e.g., Paso Canoas from Costa Rica). You'll still need a passport valid for 6 months and proof of onward travel. The process is usually quicker than at the airport.
No. There's no online pre-registration or arrival declaration required for Czech passport holders. Just show up with your passport and return ticket.
Panama uses the US dollar (the balboa is pegged 1:1). Prices are similar to or slightly higher than the Czech Republic for meals and accommodation. A basic hotel room costs around $50–80 per night, a meal in a local restaurant $8–15.
No vaccinations are required for entry from Europe. However, yellow fever vaccine is recommended if you're traveling from a country with yellow fever. Check with your doctor 4–6 weeks before departure.
