Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport just needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Peru. Airlines sometimes ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Peru
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Lima Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
You may be asked where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration can ask for bank statements or cash. Have at least $500 USD or equivalent available — either in cash, card, or a recent bank statement.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Peruvian immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied travel. Renew it well in advance.
No visa, but be prepared
While you don't need a visa, immigration officers can still deny entry if they suspect you're working illegally, don't have a return ticket, or can't support yourself financially. Always carry proof of onward travel and accommodation.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Lima Airport (Jorge Chávez)
After landing, follow signs to 'Migraciones' (Immigration). There are separate queues for foreigners and Peruvians. Join the foreigner queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport and may ask how long you're staying. Answer honestly — you get up to 90 days.
2
Customs declaration
After immigration, you'll pass through customs. You may need to fill out a digital or paper customs form (often provided on the plane). Declare any items over $500 or restricted goods. Green light means no inspection; red light means bag check.
3
Exit Peru (departure)
When leaving, go through immigration again. They'll check your passport and stamp you out. No exit fee for tourists. Make sure you haven't overstayed your 90 days — overstays can result in fines or bans.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable for Czech passport holders. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Peru and re-enter (e.g., a quick trip to Chile or Bolivia) to reset the clock. Overstaying can result in fines of about $1 per day and potential entry bans.
No, the visa-free entry covers all tourist activities in Peru, including visiting Machu Picchu, the Amazon, and other attractions. You don't need a separate visa for specific regions.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry by Peruvian immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism only. Remote work for a foreign employer is a gray area — many travelers do it without issues, but it's not officially allowed. If you plan to work for a Peruvian company, you need a work visa.
Not required for entry from Europe, but recommended if you're visiting the Amazon region. Some airlines may ask for proof if you're flying directly from a yellow fever endemic country. Check with your doctor.
You'll be fined approximately 1 Peruvian Sol (about $0.27) per day of overstay, payable at the immigration office before departure. Overstays over 30 days can lead to a ban from re-entering Peru for up to 3 years.
Yes, the same visa-free rules apply at land borders. You'll go through immigration at the border crossing. Have your passport and return ticket ready. Land crossings can be slower than airports, so allow extra time.
