Danish passport holders can enter Bosnia and Herzegovina without a visa for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This has been the case since 2010 and applies to tourism, business, and family visits. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Danish passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended to show at border control
Immigration officers at Sarajevo and Banja Luka airports occasionally ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/train ticket out of Bosnia and Herzegovina ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have on hand
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from a host is sufficient.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry evidence
Bosnia and Herzegovina does not enforce a fixed minimum amount, but officers can ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €100–150 per day of your trip.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity before you board. If you have less than 6 months left, you won't be allowed to fly. Check your passport expiry date now — don't wait until the airport.
Keep your registration slip
When you check into a hotel, they'll give you a registration slip. Keep it with your passport. You may be asked to show it when leaving the country, especially at land borders.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Check your passport expiry date — it must be valid for 6+ months from arrival. Print or save to your phone: return ticket, first-night hotel booking, and travel insurance. No visa application needed.
2
Arrive at the border
At Sarajevo Airport (SJJ) or any land border crossing, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking — have them ready on your phone.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp before walking away — it should show the date. You're allowed to stay up to 90 days from that day.
4
Keep your documents during your stay
Carry your passport and a copy of your hotel booking at all times. Police can ask for ID. If you change hotels, update your registration with the local police within 24 hours (your hotel usually does this for you).
