Danish passport holders need an eVisa to enter Nigeria in 2026. The online application is straightforward and allows a single entry. Processing takes a few business days, so plan ahead.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for your Nigeria eVisa at the official Nigeria Immigration Service portal before travel. The eVisa is a single-entry permit, and you must print the approval letter to present at the border. Processing typically takes 3–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your Danish passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja enforce it strictly. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before booking.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Nigeria
Immigration at Nigerian airports will ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket before they let you through. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. If you don't have one, you'll be directed to buy a ticket at the airline counter before clearing immigration.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria. Immigration officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary. A simple booking confirmation from Booking.com or an Airbnb receipt works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay, or carry some cash (USD or EUR) to exchange on arrival. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, they want to see you can cover your expenses. A credit card with a decent limit also works.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter Nigeria. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport at your own expense.
Keep your eVisa approval printed
The eVisa approval letter must be printed and carried with your passport. A digital copy on your phone is not accepted at check-in or immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service portal (portal.immigration.gov.ng) and complete the eVisa application. Upload your passport photo and passport data page. Pay the fee (around $160–$200 depending on nationality). Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email.
2
Print your eVisa approval
Once approved, print the eVisa approval letter. Keep it with your passport. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival in Nigeria.
3
Arrive at Lagos or Abuja airport
At Murtala Muhammed International Airport (Lagos) or Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Abuja), proceed to the immigration desk. Hand over your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport. Expect a short interview — they may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your checked luggage from the carousel. Then proceed to customs. You may be asked to open bags for inspection. Once cleared, you're free to exit the arrivals hall.
