Danish passport holders can enter Panama without a visa for up to 90 days. This has been the case for years and remains unchanged in 2026. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date and you have a return or onward ticket.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid only for the time you plan to stay in Panama. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Panama
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Tocumen Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $500 USD available. Immigration may ask to see it if you look underfunded or your stay is near the 90-day limit.Recommended
Keep your departure slip safe
When you enter Panama, immigration gives you a small slip (the 'tarjeta de turismo'). You must return it when you leave. If you lose it, you'll need to visit an immigration office for a replacement — allow an extra hour at the airport.
No visa needed — just show up
Danish passport holders have one of the easiest entries to Panama. No visa, no fee, no application. Just a valid passport and a return ticket. The 90-day stay is generous for exploring both coasts and the islands.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from arrival), print or screenshot your return ticket, and save your first night's accommodation confirmation. If you're flying, the airline will check these before you board.
2
Arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) or other entry point
Most travellers fly into Panama City's Tocumen Airport. Follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are separate queues for foreigners and nationals. The line can be long during peak hours (afternoon/evening).
3
Present your passport and documents to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. The whole process usually takes 2–5 minutes per person.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel system. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. Random checks happen.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free period is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Panama (e.g., to Costa Rica or Colombia) and re-enter. Overstaying can result in fines and future entry bans.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Panamanian immigration. Renew your passport before travelling.
Not if you're arriving directly from Denmark or Europe. However, if you've recently visited a country with yellow fever (e.g., Brazil, Colombia), you may need proof of vaccination. Check current requirements before travel.
Yes, the main land border crossing is at Paso Canoas. The same visa-free rules apply: 90 days, passport valid 6+ months, and a return ticket. The process is similar to the airport but can be slower.
No, there is no electronic arrival declaration for Panama. You just fill out a standard immigration card on the plane or at the border. Keep the departure slip — you'll need it when you leave.
You can get a replacement at the immigration office at Tocumen Airport or at any regional immigration office. It's a minor hassle but not a big problem. Bring your passport and explain the situation.
Technically, the tourist visa does not permit work. However, Panama has a 'Short Stay Visa' for remote workers (up to 9 months) that you can apply for online. The standard 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism only.
