Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport. Have a printed copy of your hotel booking and return ticket ready — immigration officers routinely ask for both. The visa costs $50 USD for single entry (cash only, bring exact change).Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Danish passport needs at least one blank page for the visa sticker. Rwanda does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration at Kigali Airport checks for a confirmed onward or return ticket before issuing your visa on arrival. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Carry a printed hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Officers at visa on arrival counters often ask for it, especially if you're staying more than a few days.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. Immigration may ask to see it, though enforcement is not strict for short visits.Recommended
Cash is king at immigration
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash. Bring USD, EUR, or Rwandan francs. Credit cards are not accepted at the visa counter. ATMs are available after immigration but not before.
eSIMs save time
Consider getting an Airalo eSIM before you travel. It activates the moment you land, so you have data immediately without queuing at the airport for a local SIM.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival'. The queue is usually straightforward. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
2
Fill out the arrival form
You'll receive a small arrival card on the plane or at immigration. Fill in your personal details, flight number, and where you're staying.
3
Pay the visa fee
At the visa counter, pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or RWF). The officer will issue a visa sticker and stamp your passport.
4
Proceed to passport control
Hand over your passport, visa sticker, and arrival card. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, length of stay). Answer clearly.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Rwanda.
