Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the full period you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines sometimes enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within 90 days. Airlines also check this at check-in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A simple booking printout works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Ukraine doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but carrying around $50–$100 per day in cash or having a bank statement showing sufficient balance covers you. ATMs work widely in cities, but rural areas are cash-heavy.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Ukraine. If it expires sooner, you will be denied entry at the border — no exceptions. Check your passport before booking anything.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save photos of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If your phone is lost or stolen, you'll have backups.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Whether you fly into Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, or Odesa, or cross by land from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, or Moldova, you'll join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — if it's wrong, ask for a correction immediately.
4
Exit Ukraine before 90 days
Keep track of your days. Overstaying even by one day can result in a fine (around 1700 UAH / €40) and a ban on re-entry. Set a reminder on your phone.

Frequently asked questions

No. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Ukraine. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied entry. Renew your passport before you travel.
Yes. The visa-free stay is max 90 days in any 180-day period. For longer stays (work, study, family reunion), you need to apply for a long-stay visa (D visa) at the Ukrainian embassy in Copenhagen before you go. There is no extension option for the visa-free stay.
You'll be fined approximately 1700 UAH (around €40) and may be banned from re-entering Ukraine for a period. Overstays are taken seriously. Set a calendar reminder to leave before day 90.
Yes. Danish passport holders can enter Ukraine at any land border crossing (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova) without a visa. The same 90-day rule applies. Expect longer queues at busy crossings like Medyka-Shehyni.
If you stay longer than 30 days, you must register your place of residence with the State Migration Service. Your hotel or host usually handles this. For shorter stays, no registration is needed.
No, it's not required by law for Danish citizens. But it's strongly recommended — medical costs in Ukraine can be high, and your Danish health card (sygesikring) does not cover you there. A basic policy costs around €20-30 for a week.
Yes, you can work remotely for a foreign employer without a visa. But you cannot take a job with a Ukrainian company or work for a Ukrainian employer without the proper work visa. The 90-day limit still applies.
