Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Ecuador. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Ecuador
Immigration officers at Quito and Guayaquil routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. A bus ticket to Peru or a flight to Colombia works — just show you're leaving within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your first night's hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, a printed booking or email on your phone is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing at least $200–$300 for your stay. Immigration rarely checks, but budget airlines flying into Ecuador sometimes ask at check-in.Recommended
No visa needed, but be prepared
Ecuador is visa-free for Algerians, but immigration officers still have discretion. Always carry proof of onward travel and accommodation. A return ticket is the most common document they ask for.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Ecuadorian immigration
At any international airport (Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca), join the 'Foreigners' queue. Have your passport, return ticket (screenshot or printed), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport for up to 90 days.
2
Passport control interview
The officer will ask basic questions: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly. They may ask to see your return ticket or hotel booking. If you have insurance, mention it.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's no arrival declaration form to fill out. You're free to enter.
