Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports. Bring $30 USD in cash (exact change) and a passport photo — the photo booth at the airport charges extra. The visa is valid for 30 days, single entry.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel when issuing a visa on arrival. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready. A bus or boat ticket to a neighboring country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Have a hotel booking or invitation letter ready. Immigration rarely asks for it at visa on arrival, but having a printed confirmation speeds things up if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this for visa on arrival, but it helps if questioned about your stay.Recommended
Visa on arrival is not extendable
If you think you might want to stay longer than 30 days, you'll need to leave and re-enter, or apply for a different visa before you travel. Overstaying costs $10 per day.
US dollars are widely accepted
Cambodia uses US dollars alongside the Riel. Bring crisp, new bills — torn or marked notes may be refused. ATMs dispense US dollars.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at entry point
At Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports, or at land borders like Poipet or Bavet. Follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters.
2
Fill out the application form
You'll get a small form on the plane or at the counter. Fill in your details — passport number, flight, hotel. Keep it simple.
3
Submit passport and photo
Hand over your passport, the completed form, and one passport-sized photo. If you don't have a photo, they'll take one for a small fee (usually $2).
4
Pay the visa fee
Pay in US dollars cash. Tourist visa is $30, business visa $35. Have exact change if possible.
5
Wait for processing
Processing takes about 15–30 minutes. They'll call your name or hand back your passport with the visa sticker inside.
6
Proceed to immigration
Go to the immigration counter with your passport and visa. They'll stamp you in. Keep the arrival card they give you — you'll need it when leaving.
