Algerian passport holders need a visa to enter Ukraine in 2026. You must apply online before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival option. Plan ahead: processing can take up to two weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visa required
Apply for a visa at the Ukrainian embassy or consulate in your country of residence. The eVisa portal at evisa.gov.ua/en/ allows citizens of certain countries to apply online, but check if Algeria is eligible. Processing takes 5–10 working days for standard applications.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Ukraine. Ukraine does not enforce a 6-month validity rule beyond your departure date, but airlines may still check for at least 3 months validity.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from a host in Ukraine satisfy the border officer. Airbnb bookings work fine if they show your full name and dates.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry at least $50 USD per day of your stay in cash or a credit card statement. Officers rarely ask, but having a bank statement or traveler's checks avoids delays.Recommended
Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa
Visa processing can take up to 10 working days, and there's no guarantee of approval. Book refundable or flexible tickets, or wait for the visa PDF before paying for flights.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your visa PDF, passport scan, and accommodation booking on your phone and in cloud storage. If you lose the printed visa, digital copies can help at the border — but you'll still need the original passport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-Visa online
Go to evisa.gov.ua/en/ and fill out the application. Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page and a recent passport-style photo. Pay the fee (around $20–$30 USD depending on processing speed). Processing takes 5–10 working days.
2
Wait for approval and print the visa
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF visa via email. Print it out — you'll need to show it at the border. Also save a copy on your phone as backup.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you fly, gather: passport (valid 6+ months), printed visa, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at a Ukrainian airport and go through immigration
At Boryspil (Kyiv) or Lviv airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask about your trip purpose and accommodation. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp — that's your permission to stay.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes 5–10 working days. There's an express option (3 working days) for a higher fee — around $50 USD. Apply at least 2 weeks before your trip to be safe.
No. The e-Visa is not extendable. You must leave before it expires. If you need a longer stay, apply for a different visa type (e.g., a long-stay visa) at the Ukrainian embassy in Algiers before you travel.
You will be denied entry and sent back on the next available flight. There is no visa-on-arrival for Algerian passport holders. The airline may also fine you for boarding without proper documents.
It's not officially required for the e-Visa, but immigration officers may ask how you'll support yourself. Having a credit card or a few hundred dollars in cash (or equivalent in hryvnia) is a good idea.
Yes, you can enter via any official border crossing. The same visa rules apply — you must have an approved e-Visa before you arrive. Land crossings may have longer queues, so bring patience and snacks.
You'll be refused entry. Renew your passport at the Algerian consulate or in Algeria before applying for the visa. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced.
Not explicitly, but it's strongly recommended. If you're asked at the border and don't have it, you may be questioned. More importantly, medical care in Ukraine can be expensive — insurance covers you.
