Estonian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Bhutan. The eVisa is processed before you travel and is linked to your passport — no visa on arrival is available. As of 2026, the application is straightforward but requires a few supporting documents.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for Bhutan e-Permit
Apply for your Bhutan e-Permit at bhutan.travel/e-permit before you travel. The process takes about 15 minutes — you'll need a passport scan, a passport photo, and your flight details. Approval usually comes within 3 working days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Estonian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Bhutan. Bhutan does not enforce the 6-month rule, but your airline might — check with them before you fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at Paro Airport will ask to see your return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or tour itinerary
Bhutan requires all tourists to book through a licensed tour operator or have confirmed hotel reservations. Keep your booking confirmation or tour itinerary handy — immigration may ask to see it.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — a bank statement or credit card showing at least $200 per day is standard. Immigration rarely asks, but tour operators may request it before issuing your e-Permit.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
You cannot get a visa on arrival at Paro Airport. Make sure your eVisa is approved before you fly. Airlines will check it at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Bhutan, not from when you apply. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to the official Bhutan eVisa website and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Upload a digital passport photo and pay the visa fee (around $40 USD). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive your eVisa approval letter
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll show this at check-in and upon arrival in Bhutan.
3
Arrive at Paro International Airport
Paro is Bhutan's only international airport. After landing, follow signs to immigration. Present your passport, eVisa approval letter, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in — the whole process takes about 10–15 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying restricted items. Then you're free to meet your driver or guide.
