Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Colombia. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers at Bogotá and Medellín enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Colombia
Immigration at El Dorado Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket before stamping you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a return ticket. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. A credit card or bank statement with a few hundred dollars usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Check-Mig pre-registrationCheck-Mig: Colombia's mandatory online pre-registration form at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 72 hours before your flight — it takes under 5 minutes.
Mandatory online form within 72 hours of arrival
Colombia requires all travellers to complete the Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. Fill it out online, get a QR code, and show it at check-in and immigration. Takes under 5 minutes.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Check-Mig is mandatory — do it before you fly
The Check-Mig form is free and must be completed online within 72 hours of your flight. Without it, you may be denied boarding or entry. Save the QR code on your phone.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Colombia, not from when you leave. If it expires sooner, renew it before you go.

What happens at the border

1
Complete Check-Mig Online
Up to 72 hours before your flight, go to migracioncolombia.gov.co and fill out the Check-Mig form. It's free and takes about 10 minutes. You'll get a QR code — save it on your phone.
2
Prepare Your Documents
Before you reach immigration, have your passport, return ticket (screenshot), accommodation booking, and Check-Mig QR code ready. Keep them in an easily accessible pocket or folder.
3
Arrive at Immigration
At Bogotá El Dorado or any other Colombian airport, follow signs to 'Migración' or 'Extranjeros'. The queue for non-Colombian passport holders is usually separate. Have your documents out.
4
Present Your Documents
Hand over your passport and show your Check-Mig QR code. The officer may ask about your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly and briefly. You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
5
Collect Your Luggage and Exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a green/red channel system — if you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel. Then you're free to enter Colombia.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Colombia within 90 days. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa type before your 90 days are up, or leave and re-enter after a short absence.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined approximately $100–$200 USD per month overstayed, and you may be banned from re-entering Colombia for a period. Always leave on time or apply for an extension before your stay expires.
Not required for Estonian passport holders arriving directly from Europe. However, if you've recently visited a country with yellow fever (e.g., Brazil, Peru), you may need proof of vaccination. It's also recommended if you plan to visit the Amazon region in Colombia.
No. Immigration strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding by the airline or entry at the border. Renew your passport before travelling.
Check-Mig is a free online form that replaces the old paper immigration card. You must complete it at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. It asks for your personal details, flight info, and accommodation. You'll get a QR code — show it at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry.
No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short-term visits only. You cannot work for a Colombian employer or earn income in Colombia. For work, you need a specific work visa.
Colombia is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular areas like Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, and the Coffee Region. Use common sense: avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas, don't flash valuables, and use official taxis or ride-sharing apps. Petty theft can happen, so keep your belongings secure.
