Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Estonian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Taiwan. Taiwan does not require 6 months of remaining validity beyond your departure date — just cover your stay. Airlines may still ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers at Taoyuan and Kaohsiung airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. This applies even for short stays — they want to see you leave within the 90-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel confirmation for your first few nights. If staying with friends, have their name, address, and phone number written down. Officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough for your trip. Taiwan does not publish a fixed minimum, but around NT$10,000 (roughly €300) per day is a safe benchmark. Officers almost never ask for visa-free European passport holders, but it's good backup.Recommended
e-Gate available for Estonian passports
At Taoyuan and Songshan airports, you can use the automated e-Gate system. Register once at the kiosk (free, takes 2 minutes), then skip the manual queue on future visits. Your passport must have a chip.
Overstay penalties are strict
Overstaying even one day can result in a fine of NT$1,000–10,000 (€30–300), a ban from re-entry for up to 5 years, and possible detention. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taoyuan or Songshan Airport
Head to the 'Foreigners' queue at immigration. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will scan your passport, take a photo, and stamp you in. The whole process takes 2-5 minutes.
2
Fill out the arrival card (if required)
Some airlines hand out paper arrival cards on the plane. Fill it in with your flight number, passport details, and accommodation address. If you use the e-Gate system (available for Estonian passports at major airports), you can skip the paper card.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're free to go.
