Must be valid for 6 months beyond departure
Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required

Required for entry
Immigration officers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for your address in Vietnam during the entry interview.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a bank statement showing at least $1,000 USD or the equivalent in cash. Officers rarely ask, but if you cannot show sufficient funds, they may deny entry.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Vietnam. If it's close to expiry, renew it before applying for the eVisa — otherwise your application will be rejected.
eVisa is not extendable
The eVisa allows a single stay of up to 90 days. You cannot extend it. If you need to stay longer, you must leave Vietnam and re-enter with a new visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) and submit. Processing takes about 3 working days. You'll receive an approval letter via email.
2
Print the eVisa approval letter
Once approved, print the eVisa letter (a single page with your details and a QR code). Keep it with your passport. You'll need to present it at immigration on arrival.
3
Arrive at a Vietnamese airport
When you land at any international airport in Vietnam (e.g., Noi Bai in Hanoi, Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang), proceed to the immigration counters. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport — the whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your checked luggage from the carousel. Then proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now free to enter Vietnam.
