Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Harare, Victoria Falls, or Bulawayo airports. Pay in USD cash ($30–$75 depending on single or multiple entry). Have a printed eVisa approval letter from the official portal as backup — the immigration officer may ask for it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Original passport with at least 6 months validity
Your passport must have at least 6 months remaining from your entry date. Zimbabwe strictly enforces this — airlines check it at check-in. No exceptions.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. If you're overlanding out, a bus or train booking works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Zimbabwe. Officers rarely ask, but it's better to have it printed. A simple booking.com PDF works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Zimbabwe is a cash-heavy economy — USD is widely accepted. ATMs are unreliable.Recommended
Cash only – no cards accepted
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in US dollars cash. ATMs in Zimbabwe dispense local currency (ZWL), not USD. Bring enough small bills ($5, $10, $20) from home. There are no exchange facilities before immigration.
Keep your return ticket handy
Immigration officers frequently ask to see proof of onward travel. A screenshot of your booking on your phone is fine – just have it ready before you reach the counter.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Harare or Victoria Falls Airport
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. At Harare, the counter is just before passport control. At Victoria Falls, it's a small desk to the left of the main queue.
2
Fill out the visa application form
You'll get a short form on arrival. Fill in your details, passport info, and purpose of visit. Keep it simple – 'tourism' is fine.
3
Submit your documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, completed form, and cash (USD). The officer will process the visa – usually takes 5–10 minutes. They'll ask how long you're staying; say the exact number of days.
4
Receive your visa and proceed to passport control
Once the visa is stamped, you'll go to the passport control line. Show your passport with the new visa and your boarding pass. That's it – you're in.

Visa on arrival is also available at major land borders like Beitbridge (from South Africa) and Kazungula (from Zambia). The process is the same – cash USD, valid passport, and a completed form. Expect slightly longer queues.
Only if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk (e.g., parts of South America or Africa). Otherwise, no. But it's smart to have your vaccination card handy just in case.
