Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Schengen visa application
Apply at the Belgian embassy or visa centre
You need a Schengen visa before travel. Apply at the Belgian embassy or a VFS Global centre in Egypt. The visa costs €90 for adults, €45 for children 6–12, free for children under 6. Processing takes 15 calendar days on average — apply at least 4 weeks before your trip.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure from Schengen area
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you leave the Schengen zone. It also needs at least two blank pages for entry/exit stamps. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Belgian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within your visa's validity. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air also check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask for a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Belgium. The booking must cover your entire stay and match the dates on your visa. A printout of the confirmation email works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
You may be asked to show you have at least €95 per day of your stay in Belgium. A bank statement from the last 3 months or a credit card with a sufficient limit usually satisfies the officer. Keep a printed copy in your hand luggage.Recommended
Apply well in advance
Visa appointments at the Belgian embassy in Cairo can fill up quickly, especially during summer and holidays. Book your appointment at least 6-8 weeks before your planned departure.
Schengen area rules
Belgium is part of the Schengen zone. With your visa, you can also visit other Schengen countries (like France, Germany, Netherlands) for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Just make sure Belgium is your main destination.

What happens at the border

1
Book an appointment at the Belgian embassy in Cairo
Go to the Belgian embassy's online appointment system (or call them) to schedule a visa appointment. Slots can fill up weeks in advance, so book early. The embassy is at 18, El-Salam St., Garden City, Cairo.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: completed application form, passport photos, passport copy, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements, and any sponsorship letters. Make photocopies of everything.
3
Attend the visa interview
Show up at the embassy on your appointment date with all documents. You'll submit your application, pay the fee, and possibly answer a few questions about your trip. They'll take your fingerprints if it's your first Schengen visa.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. In busy periods it can take up to 45 days. You'll get a call or email when your passport is ready for collection. Track online if available.
5
Collect your passport
Pick up your passport from the embassy. Check the visa sticker carefully — make sure your name, dates, and number of entries are correct. If anything is wrong, ask for correction immediately.
6
Arrive in Belgium and go through immigration
At Brussels Airport or any other entry point, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with your entry date and allowed stay.
