Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Riga Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen area within your visa's validity. Budget airlines often check this before issuing a boarding pass. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a confirmed hotel booking for your entire stay, or an invitation letter from a host in Latvia if staying with friends or family. Immigration may ask for this at the border. A simple booking confirmation printout works.Recommended
Proof of funds

Schengen area rules
A Latvian visa lets you travel to all 27 Schengen countries. Your total stay in the Schengen area cannot exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, bank statements, and the completed visa form. Make copies of everything.
2
Submit your application at the Latvian embassy or consulate
Book an appointment at the Latvian embassy in Cairo (or the nearest Schengen embassy if Latvia doesn't have one in Egypt). Submit your application in person. You'll be fingerprinted (biometrics) if it's your first Schengen visa.
3
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can take up to 45 days during peak seasons. Check the embassy's website for current timelines.
4
Collect your passport
Once approved, you'll get your passport back with the visa sticker. Verify the dates and spelling of your name before leaving the embassy.
5
Arrive in Latvia
At Riga Airport or any border crossing, present your passport with the visa, return ticket, and proof of accommodation. The officer may ask about your trip purpose. Answer clearly and briefly.
