Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Mauritius. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mauritius
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Mauritius ready — they check this at the counter before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Immigration may ask where you're staying — a booking confirmation on your phone works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your trip. There's no fixed amount, but having at least $100 per day in accessible funds covers you if asked.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Mauritius, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be turned away.
No visa needed — just show up prepared
Egyptian passport holders get 90 days visa-free. No application, no fee, no embassy visit. Just have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation details ready.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Print or save a copy of your return ticket and first night's accommodation. If you're staying with family, have their address and phone number written down.
2
Arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for foreign nationals and Mauritian citizens. Join the foreign nationals queue.
3
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer clearly and honestly. They'll stamp your passport with a visitor's permit valid for up to 90 days.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over the duty-free limit. If you're unsure, use the red channel.
