Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Rwanda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Rwanda
Immigration officers at Kigali International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel reservation for your entire stay. If staying with friends, have their contact details and address ready — officers sometimes ask for this at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least $100 USD per day of your stay — a bank statement or credit card works. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you're not planning to work illegally.Recommended
No visa needed — just show up
Egyptian passport holders get 30 days visa-free in Rwanda. No application, no fee, no embassy visit. Just a valid passport and a return ticket.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Rwanda. Airlines check this before boarding — if you're short, you won't fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
Most flights land at Kigali International Airport (KGL). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'.
2
Present your documents at immigration
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and return ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee, no form. You're free to enter Rwanda.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare.

No pre-arrival declaration is required for Egyptian passport holders. You simply show your passport and return ticket at immigration.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at Kigali airport. Renew your passport before traveling.
Yes, the visa-free policy applies at all land borders as well. Same 30-day limit. Just have your passport and return ticket ready.
No visa on arrival for longer stays. You'd need to apply for a visa (e.g., tourist visa or visitor's pass) at a Rwandan embassy before travel, or contact DGIE in Kigali for an extension.
Rwanda requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Egypt is not considered a risk country, so it's not required for direct flights. But if you've recently traveled to a risk area, bring your certificate.
The local currency is the Rwandan franc (RWF). US dollars are accepted at some hotels and tour operators, but you'll get better rates using local currency. ATMs are widely available in Kigali.
