Arrive at the airport
Fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Arusha, or Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) in Zanzibar. These are the only ports of entry that issue visas on arrival.
2
Go to the visa on arrival counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration.' Join the queue. Have your passport, a passport photo, and $50 USD in cash ready. The officer will fill out a form, take your photo, and staple the visa sticker into your passport.
3
Pay the fee and get your visa
Pay exactly $50 USD in cash. They accept USD, GBP, or EUR but not Tanzanian Shillings. Have exact change if possible. The whole process takes 10–30 minutes depending on the queue.
4
Proceed to passport control
After getting your visa, go to the passport control line. Hand over your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly and you'll be stamped in.
5
Collect luggage and exit
Once stamped, collect your bags from baggage claim and walk through customs. You're now legally in Tanzania for up to 90 days.
