Proof of departure from China
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in China. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay

Internet restrictions in China
Many Western websites and apps (Google, Gmail, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X) are blocked in China. Install a reliable VPN on your phone and laptop before you leave Spain. Without one, you won't be able to access your email, maps, or social media.
Carry cash or WeChat Pay
Credit cards are not widely accepted outside major hotels and international chains. Most payments in China are done via WeChat Pay or Alipay. Bring some Chinese Yuan (CNY) in cash for taxis, small shops, and street food. ATMs are available at airports and banks.

What happens at the border

Prepare your documents
Before you leave Spain, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone.
2

On the flight to China, you'll receive a small arrival card. Fill it out in English or Chinese. Keep it with your passport.
3

At major airports like Beijing Capital (PEK), Shanghai Pudong (PVG), or Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), follow signs for 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Wait times vary from 10 to 45 minutes.
4
Present documents to officer
Hand over your passport, arrival card, and return ticket if asked. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly.
5

Frequently asked questions

No. The 30-day visa-free entry cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a proper visa (e.g., tourist L visa) at a Chinese embassy or consulate before traveling.
If you stay in a hotel, they register you automatically. If you stay in a private residence, your host must register you at the local police station within 24 hours of arrival. Failure to do so can result in fines of up to 2,000 RMB.
Yes, you can enter multiple times, but each stay is limited to 30 days. There's no minimum gap required between visits, but frequent back-to-back entries may raise questions at immigration.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Chinese immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced.
If you're transiting through a Chinese airport and staying airside (not passing immigration), you don't need a visa for up to 24 hours. For longer layovers or leaving the airport, check the 144-hour transit visa policy available at major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
No. The visa-free entry is strictly for tourism, business meetings, or family visits. Any paid work, study, or volunteering requires the appropriate visa. Violating this can lead to deportation and a ban from re-entering China for up to 5 years.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined 500 RMB per day (up to 10,000 RMB), detained for questioning, and may be banned from re-entering China for 1–5 years. Leave before your stamp expires.
