Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Spanish passport needs to be valid only for the time you plan to stay in North Macedonia. Airlines may ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from North Macedonia
Immigration officers at Skopje Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their address and phone number.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds. Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €50 per day of your stay.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Border officers check this carefully. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be refused entry — no exceptions.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save screenshots of your return ticket, hotel booking, and passport info page on your phone. If you lose your passport, these make it much easier to get an emergency replacement at the Spanish embassy in Skopje.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport is valid for 6+ months from your arrival date. Print or save digital copies of your return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Also arrange a local SIM or eSIM so you have data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Skopje or Ohrid airport
Most flights land at Skopje International Airport (SKP) or Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for EU/EEA and other nationals. Spanish passport holders use the 'All passports' line.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. If asked, show your return ticket and hotel booking. They'll stamp your passport — check the stamp says the correct entry date.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall where taxis and buses are available.

No, if you're transiting through an airport and don't leave the international transit area, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport or stay overnight, the standard visa-free rules apply.
Always carry your passport. Police can ask for ID at any time. A photocopy or digital photo of your passport is useful in case of loss, but the original is required for identification.
No, there's no arrival declaration or registration requirement for short stays. Your hotel will register you automatically. If staying with friends or family, they should notify the local police within 48 hours.
