Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Namibia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Namibia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A flight booking out of Namibia within 90 days is sufficient — they rarely check accommodation or funds if you have this.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers may ask for it if you look uncertain about where you are staying.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least 500 NAD (about $30 USD) per day in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Credit cards are accepted in Windhoek and Swakopmund but not in rural areas.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you book your flight. Immigration officers at Hosea Kutako International Airport will check this.
Keep a copy of your return ticket
Immigration may ask to see your onward ticket. Save a screenshot on your phone or have a printed copy. It's a quick check, but missing it can cause delays.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH)
Most visitors fly into Windhoek's main airport. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are usually two queues: one for Namibian citizens and one for foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your documents at the counter
Hand over your passport and any supporting documents (return ticket, accommodation booking) if asked. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in. This usually takes 2-5 minutes.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Then go through customs — there's usually nothing to declare for personal items. You're free to exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Namibia before the 90 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a visa or permit from a Namibian embassy before travelling.
You will be denied entry. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before you travel.
Only if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk (like parts of South America or Africa). If you're flying directly from Spain, you don't need it. Check the latest requirements before you go.
Yes, you can cross at any official border post. The same visa-free rules apply — 90 days. Just make sure your passport is stamped on entry. Common crossings include the Ariamsvlei and Noordoewer borders.
The Namibian dollar (NAD) is the local currency. It's pegged 1:1 to the South African rand, and rand is widely accepted everywhere. You can withdraw NAD from ATMs at the airport or in Windhoek. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants.
No, there's no arrival declaration required for Spanish passport holders. You just show your passport at immigration and get stamped in. No eTA or pre-approval needed.
Overstaying can result in fines, a ban from re-entering Namibia, or even deportation. The fine is typically around NAD 500-1000 (about €25-50) per day overstayed, but it's best to avoid it entirely. Leave before day 90.
