Spanish passport holders can enter Tunisia without a visa for stays up to 90 days. This policy remains unchanged in 2026. Just bring your passport and a return ticket — it's that simple.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Tunisia
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the duration of your stay. Tunisia does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule for Spanish passport holders, but airlines may check for at least 3 months beyond your departure date.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tunisia
Immigration officers at Tunis-Carthage Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready. Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds, though this is uncommon for short visits.Recommended
Entry stamp check
Always check that the immigration officer stamps your passport with the entry date. Without it, you may have trouble proving you entered legally when you leave.
Overstay penalties
Overstaying even one day can result in a fine (around 30–50 TND per day) and a ban from re-entering Tunisia for up to a year. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Tunis-Carthage Airport (or other entry points)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Tunisian nationals and foreigners. Join the 'Foreigners' line. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually no questions asked for Spanish passport holders. The whole process takes 5–15 minutes.
2
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. Customs is usually green channel (nothing to declare) unless you're carrying large sums of cash or restricted goods. Then you're free to leave the airport.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is strictly 90 days and cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Tunisia (e.g., a quick trip to Malta or Italy) and re-enter — but immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits. For longer stays, apply for a residence permit at the Tunisian Ministry of Interior before your 90 days expire.
No. If you're staying airside and not passing through passport control, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport during a layover, you'll need to go through immigration — and the visa-free rules apply (90 days max).
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at Tunisian border control. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
Technically, no. The visa-free entry is for tourism only. Working (including remote work for a foreign company) is not officially allowed. In practice, many digital nomads do it quietly, but if you're caught, you could be fined or deported. Tunisia doesn't have a specific digital nomad visa as of 2026.
Not usually for Spanish passport holders. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look like you might overstay or have no means of support, they can request proof. Having a credit card and a few hundred euros in cash is sensible.
No mandatory vaccines for entry. Routine vaccines (hepatitis A, typhoid) are recommended by health authorities. Check with your doctor 4–6 weeks before travel.
