Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Ethiopian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Côte d'Ivoire. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Abidjan airport routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight within your visa validity. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host in Côte d'Ivoire. Immigration may ask for it if you look uncertain about where you're staying.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry cash (CFA francs or euros) or a bank statement showing enough funds for your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but having at least 100,000 CFA (~€150) per week of stay avoids questions.Recommended
Apply early — processing takes days, not minutes
The e-visa can take up to 5 business days to process. Don't wait until the last minute. Apply at least a week before your departure to avoid stress.
Keep a digital copy of everything
Save your visa approval, return ticket, and hotel confirmation as PDFs on your phone. Screenshots work too. You'll need them at check-in and immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Côte d'Ivoire e-visa portal (snedai.com). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee (around 50,000 XOF, roughly $80 USD). Processing usually takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and save your visa approval
You'll get an email with your visa approval. Print a paper copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show this at the airport in Addis Ababa and again on arrival in Abidjan.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before you leave for the airport, gather: your passport, visa approval (printed or digital), return ticket, and first-night accommodation confirmation. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport (ABJ)
After landing in Abidjan, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Present your passport, visa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in — typically for up to 30 days. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
