RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival at Kotoka International Airport
Get your visa on arrival at Accra's Kotoka International Airport. Have $150 USD in cash ready for the visa fee — the counter does not accept cards. You'll need two passport-sized photos and a printout of your hotel booking.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Ethiopian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Ghana. Airlines at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa check this before letting you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Kotoka ask for a return or onward ticket at the visa-on-arrival counter. Have a printed copy of your flight itinerary ready — showing it on your phone works too, but paper is faster.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Ghana. The visa-on-arrival officer may ask for it — having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. The visa-on-arrival counter may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be vaccinated on the spot or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa fee must be paid in cash — no credit or debit cards. Bring USD, EUR, GBP, or Ghanaian cedis. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash before that point.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival'. You'll find a dedicated counter before the main passport control line.
2
Fill out the visa application form
Pick up a form at the counter or from a desk nearby. It asks for basic info: name, passport number, flight details, accommodation address. Use a black pen.
3
Submit documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, completed form, two photos, and the fee in cash. The officer will process your visa and stamp it into your passport.
4
Proceed to passport control
Once you have the visa sticker, join the main passport control queue. Show your passport with the new visa and your boarding pass. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, length of stay).
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare, red channel if you do.
