Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before you fly
Ethiopian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Qatar. Apply through the Hukoomi portal — the official government eVisa platform. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Qatar. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Qatari immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Hamad International Airport routinely asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Qatar immigration may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel booking confirmation or a letter from your host ready. A printed copy is safest, but a digital version on your phone works too.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — a bank statement or credit card showing at least 5,000 QAR (roughly $1,370 USD) for a short stay. Immigration rarely asks, but it's better to have it.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Ethiopian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Qatar. You must apply and receive approval before you fly. Airlines will check this before boarding.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Qatar, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Hukoomi portal (hukoomi.gov.qa), select the eVisa service, fill in your details, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee (approx. QAR 100). Processing usually takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with the approved eVisa. Print a copy and save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival in Qatar.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return ticket, hotel booking confirmation, and travel insurance. Keep screenshots of everything on your phone.
4
Arrive at Hamad International Airport (DOH)
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for foreign passport holders. Present your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp valid for the duration of your eVisa.
