French passport holders can travel to South Korea without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. For longer stays or other purposes, you'll need to apply for an e-visa before you go. Here's what you need to know for a smooth entry in 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization)K-ETA is an online pre-screening that allows visa-free entry; without it, you may be denied boarding.
Visa-free entry for French citizens
French passport holders do not need a traditional visa for stays up to 90 days. However, you must obtain a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) before departure. Apply online at least 72 hours before your flight; the approval is valid for 2 years from the date of issue.Required
Passport validitySouth Korea enforces a 6-month validity rule to ensure you can return home or extend your stay if needed.
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your French passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of departure from South Korea. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before traveling.Required
Blank passport pagesImmigration officers need a clean page to stamp your entry and exit dates.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must contain at least 1 blank visa page (not counting the endorsement page) for the entry stamp. Ensure no pages are torn or damaged.Required
Return or onward ticketImmigration may ask to see proof that you will leave before your visa-free period expires.
Proof of departure from South Korea
You must hold a confirmed return or onward flight ticket to a country other than South Korea, with a departure date within your 90-day stay. The ticket must be in your name.Required
Proof of sufficient fundsWhile not always requested, having proof of funds helps avoid issues if an officer questions your ability to support yourself.
For your stay
You should be able to show evidence of sufficient funds for your stay, such as recent bank statements or credit cards. The amount is not fixed, but it should cover accommodation, meals, and incidentals for the duration of your visit.Recommended
Accommodation detailsImmigration may ask for your local address to confirm your itinerary.
Where you will stay
Have the address and contact details of your hotel, guesthouse, or host in South Korea ready. If staying with friends or family, carry their address and phone number.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou do not need to fill out any extra forms before landing; the arrival card is given to you on the plane.
Not required for French citizens
No separate arrival declaration (such as a customs or health form) is required for French citizens entering South Korea. You will complete the standard arrival card provided on the flight. Not required
Passport validity is strict
Even if you're only staying a week, your passport must be valid 6 months from your arrival date. Airlines check this before boarding — if it's not, you won't fly.
K-ETA is not required for French citizens
As of 2026, France is on the visa-free list, and the K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is not required for French passport holders. Just show your passport.

What happens at the border

1
Check your passport
Before booking anything, make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and has at least one blank page. If not, renew it now.
2
Book your flights and accommodation
Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready. You'll need these to show at immigration if asked.
3
Fill out the arrival card
On the plane, you'll get an arrival card. Fill it out with your flight number, accommodation address, and basic info. Keep it with your passport.
4
Go through immigration at Incheon or Gimpo
At the airport, follow the 'Foreign Passport' signs. Have your passport and arrival card ready. The officer will check your passport, maybe ask a question or two, and stamp you in. This usually takes a few minutes.
5
Collect your bags and exit
After the stamp, grab your luggage and walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel.
