eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az at least 3 working days before departure. The standard processing takes 3 business days, or pay extra for urgent (3-hour) processing. Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport — border officers will scan the QR code.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your UK passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready. Without one, you may be questioned or refused entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel booking confirmations or a letter of invitation from your host can speed up the immigration process. Officers occasionally ask where you are staying — have the address and contact number handy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay — bank statements, credit card, or cash. While not always checked, officers can request proof that you can cover accommodation and expenses.Recommended
Register if staying over 15 days
If you're staying longer than 15 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels do this automatically, but if you're in a private apartment, you need to visit a migration office in person. Fines for non-compliance can be several hundred manat.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az and fill in the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and a digital photo. Pay the fee (around $20-25 USD) by card. Processing takes 3 working days, but you can pay extra for urgent processing (24 hours).
2
Receive your eVisa by email
Once approved, you'll get a PDF visa attached to an email. Print it out and save a copy on your phone. The visa is linked to your passport number — no need to stick anything in your passport.
3
Arrive at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport
At immigration, present your passport and the printed eVisa. The officer will scan your passport and stamp you in. Have your return ticket and accommodation confirmation ready in case they ask.
4
Register with local authorities (if staying more than 15 days)
If you're staying longer than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do this yourself at a migration office. Failing to register can mean a fine on departure.
