Hungary entry requirements for United Kingdom passport holders
British passport holders can visit Hungary (and the wider Schengen Area) for tourism, business, or transit without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This visa-free arrangement applies in 2025. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Hungary and have at least one blank page for the entry stamp.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for the entire stay | Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Hungary. Hungary is part of the Schengen zone, so your 90-day allowance applies across all 27 Schengen countries — not just Hungary. Airlines check this at check-in. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Proof of departure from Schengen zone | Immigration officers at Budapest Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen area within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Budget airlines often check this before letting you board. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Have your hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a host's address ready. Officers at passport control may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show you can support yourself | You need roughly 10,000 HUF (~€25) per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card usually satisfies the officer. They rarely ask, but it's a legal requirement under Schengen rules. | Recommended |
